The "Efficiency" Metrics aren’t fixing the fact that we’re just building spreadsheets now.

I remember when the halls at HQ felt like a think tank. There was an arrogance to us then, sure, but it was earned—we were the engine room of the database world. Now, it feels like we’re playing a long, slow game of musical chairs where the music stopped years ago. I look at the current org charts and I honestly can’t tell who is steering the ship. Every quarter brings another re-org, another layer of middle management trying to justify their existence by creating more friction for the actual engineers. We’re busy pivoting to "cloud-native" everything while the product itself feels like it’s being held together by duct tape and legacy inertia. Leadership talks about agility, but they’ve traded our soul for quarterly margin optics. The institutional knowledge is walking out the door in waves, leaving behind a hollow shell of a company. I miss the days when we built things to last, not just to satisfy a slide deck for the Street. Does anyone upstairs even remember how to ship?
