The Ghost of the Mission Statement in a Room Full of Mirrors

I remember when the "Mission" wasn’t just a plaque in the lobby—it was the air we breathed. Now, I spend my mornings navigating a labyrinth of dotted lines that never seem to connect to anything resembling a decision. Working in this matrix feels like trying to choreograph a symphony where every player answers to five different conductors, none of whom are in the same room. I’ve spent more time this week "aligning" with cross-functional stakeholders—each of whom has their own hidden P&L agenda—than actually thinking about the patient. We’ve traded our surgical precision for bureaucratic friction. It’s all silos and shadow-politics now. You can feel the weight of it in the silence during meetings, the way we all glance at our managers before speaking. We used to move with the urgency of someone saving a life; now we move with the caution of someone protecting their own headcount. I miss when Medtronic felt like a purpose, not just a complex puzzle of middle-management red tape.
