The "Efficiency" Pivot: Why we’re all just placeholders now

There’s a strange geometry to the office lately. Every time the quarterly earnings report hits, the footprint of our department seems to shrink, not by actual restructuring, but by a sudden, localized vacuum where people used to sit. At Sands, the shift feels less like a traditional layoff and more like a permanent state of "optimization." We aren't being managed; we’re being liquidated in increments. The leadership talks about pivoting toward a leaner, digital-first hospitality model, but the floor-level reality is a systematic erosion of institutional memory. When you cut mid-level ops leads every six months, you lose the people who actually know why the workflows are broken in the first place. I’m watching the churn rate hit tenured staff now. It’s no longer just the redundant roles; it’s the infrastructure of the teams. We’re all working under the assumption that our badge access is on a timer. It’s hard to build anything when the foundation is constantly being sold for parts.
