I walked past the empty desk pods in Building A this morning and realized I couldn't remember the last time we heard a laugh that wasn't strained. There was a time when the "Team Anywhere" promise felt like a genuine philosophical stance, not just a way to prune headcount across time zones. We used to ship with a weird, defiant kind of joy. Now, we’re just maintaining the scaffolding of a ghost ship. The remaining engineers are being asked to absorb the tribal knowledge of three people who were let go over a Zoom call, while management pivots to the next "efficiency" framework. Every time I open a PR, I look at the author list and see names that don’t exist anymore. It’s like we’re performing an autopsy on our own momentum. We’re still hitting the cadence, still churning out the roadmap, but the soul—that weird, Aussie-grown, "don't-fuck-the-customer" magic—has been replaced by a spreadsheet. I miss when we were building tools for teams, not just filling cells for the quarterly forecast.
